"Rising Normal": Looking Ahead For A Strong Cargo Demand

Ports and Cargo in Manila suffered a decline in pass-throughs, dropping by 85% ever since the pandemic started. Cargo volume plummets from January to December 2020, declining 13.5% to 230.43 million metric tons (MMT) year-on-year. But with the continuous changes in the Covid-19 scene, Official of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Wednesday said the cargo traffic is expected to rebound by 7 percent in 2021. PPA estimated that cargo traffic is expected to grow by about 7 percent this year or to a total of 246.79 million metric tons, with a 1 percent increase expected in 2022 and 3 percent by 2023. As the Cargo industry continues to grow for the next succeeding years, it is crucial to adopt digitization in their operations for them to thrive. In a survey from IAG Cargo, 70% of freight forwarders are expected the rate of technological change to increase in the year ahead. And 81% of forwarders believe technological innovation will have a positive impact on their business.

Here are few benefits of digitization in Cargo Logistics.

1. Cargo Transparency End-to-end visibility is the key to better cargo delivery and becomes especially important when facing disruptions like the Covid-19 pandemic. Logistics solution allows companies to get real-time visibility and data like the location and status of every delivery. It also reduces the scope for human errors, manipulation of prices, and inventory. Digitization will ensure speedy completion of tasks. 2. Paperless System The paperless environment became a buzzword in the industry for a year now and, during this pandemic, it forces companies to move into digital. Automation ensures that core delivery processes like job allocation, scheduling, real-time tracking do not need any manual intervention. Automating time-consuming tasks and processes is a proven way to reduce costs, ensure the safety of employees, and deliver employee-based savings. 3. Predictive Analytics Availability of data from all touchpoints and tools to analyze that data to help make better business decisions. A logistics solution can automatically predict delays, risks, generate accurate ETAs, and do much more by leveraging data. By making this available, organizations can streamline processes and enhance the customer experience during a difficult time.
